A very wise person told me that there is no such thing as being overwhelmed – it’s a lack of setting priorities. Think about that for a little while. If you’re like me, I always have a to do list a mile long. I never accomplish what I set out to do, because I have too much to do! If I cut that list by a fourth or fifth, I then start to actually get something done.

Most of us have expectations bigger than what we are actually able to do.

The result is feeling overwhelmed and stressed out. So, go ahead and write that list, if you must, but only tackle a few items each day. Another culprit is being too connected. We have cell phones, emails, texting, television, Internet – lots of noise. There is too much stimulation going on and not enough peace and quiet. Your mind is just like a computer – it runs out of space. You need to clear up some space. How? Through meditation.

It may sound crazy, but stopping and getting quiet will actually help you accomplish more. It will also help you to rest in the present moment and not be overwhelmed and so stressed out.

I am so passionate about meditation that I’ve created a whole new website dedicated toward not only meditation, but contemplative writing and prayer – Guided Christian Meditation.com.

So, cut back on your list. Focus on the first things first. Get quiet. Set aside ten to fifteen minutes a day. If you need help, I’ve created a very simple meditation CD to help guide you through the process. Visit my new website to receive cut #1 absolutely free by clicking on this link – http://guidedchristianmeditation.com. Less is more!

I’ve been doing a lot of work and planning with creating several new websites. That task is taking a lot of time and energy and I was feeling a little overwhelmed this morning. This message, taken from I Corinthians chapter fourteen verse thirty-three, always comes to mind when I’m feeling overwhelmed or confused:

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.”

Prayer has always been a foundation within the Christian faith. In fact, every religious service contains prayer and usually the famous prayer – The Lord’s Prayer, as a part of the worship service. While it’s helpful to pray to God about being overwhelmed and asking for help, why not try listening first? Christian meditation is listening to God. Let God nurture you for a little while by simply sitting in his/her presence.

Her presence?

God is traditionally called our Father in heaven. But doesn’t God love us like a mother too? Remember as a little kid when you fell and skinned up a knee pretty badly? I took so many tumbles that the pigment is gone from my knees! You probably ran through the door crying with blood streaming down your knee. Your mother wouldn’t ask for an explanation of how you got hurt and have you stand there and recite the incident. She would immediately comfort you with hugs and look at the wound. She’d then wash it up with soap and water and tell you that everything is okay and that you were going to be alright. She would then dry away your tears. She didn’t need to know why you were upset. She saw that you were hurting and took care of your needs.

God knows what our hurts are too. The next time you’re overwhelmed, let God give you a hug through a combination of prayer and meditation.

I’ve created a new website devoted entirely to Christian Meditation, prayer and contemplative writing. This post has received so many views that I created a specific prayer for being overwhelmed – Click here for that prayer. Please visit http://guidedchristianmeditation.com and receive my FREE weekly Ezine called The Guided Life where I will help encourage you on your spiritual path.

I’ve found the perfect solution to combat all of the gloom and doom out there. Turn off the news and meditate! If there was ever a time to learn to meditate, it’s now. Our senses are assaulted in our new technological age.

Here’s a perfect example. I just took a trip to Dallas. Sitting in the airport, I was amazed at the amount of pure noise going on around me. One of the twenty-four hour news channels was blaring (so much for turning off the news), the windows were vibrating from the sound of the jet engines, people all around me were talking on cell phones and the loud speaker was announcing various boarding instructions. All this was happening as I was trying to concentrate writing an article on my laptop. Can you say sensory overload? Fortunately for me, I have been practicing meditation now for quite some time.

Because of this discipline, I was able to filter out the noise and not let it get to me. If you need to relax and gain some sanity in your life, I urge you to learn how to meditate. You’ll be amazed at how this practice will help you relax and bring more clarity to your life. Ten to fifteen minutes a day is all it takes to gain some sanity. Can’t find the time?

I just heard a statistic that Americans watch 31 hours of television a week! Here’s an idea – If you have a DVR, surely you can record and plow through that many commercials. That will give you ten to fifteen minutes in a one hour program to meditate, right?

Can you tell I’m a little passionate about this? So much so that I’ve created an entire website dedicated to meditation. You can subscribe to my weekly Ezine called The Guided Life and receive Cut #1 from my meditation CD, “Be Still and Know that I am God.” Just visit: http://guidedchristianmeditation.com. Relax! Learn to meditate.
